Tomley RC recently received a mysterious package, shrouded in secrecy, containing a 1/18 scale Charisma GTR R32, a rare gem in the world of licensed models. Known for their past sluggish offerings, like the Rally Car and the 959, Charisma seems to have upped their game with this new GTR, boasting updated electronics and gearing for a more thrilling on-road experience. However, the initial excitement was slightly dampened by the presence of a clunky, outdated transmitter that seemed to belong in a time capsule from the '90s.
Upon closer inspection, the Charisma GTR revealed a mix of impressive features, including a sleek lexan body, sturdy suspension, and metal components like drive shafts and differentials. Despite these promising elements, concerns arose over the lack of detailed specs, loose oil shocks, and non-adjustable camber and toe settings, hinting at potential handling challenges. The chassis, made of f FRP, showcased innovative additions such as a rear diffuser and a foam bumper, adding a touch of sophistication to the overall design.
Testing the Charisma GTR on both 2s and 3s batteries unveiled decent speeds but highlighted issues with understeer and torque steer, detracting from the overall driving experience. The team at Tomley RC suggested that enhancing adjustability, steering angle, and transmitter quality could elevate the GTR's performance and appeal. Despite its striking aesthetics and satisfactory speed capabilities, the Charisma GTR falls short of delivering a truly exhilarating drive due to its handling quirks and outdated components, leaving enthusiasts yearning for a more refined and dynamic experience on the road.
