Today, we're talking about the ZD 013 Pro GPS drone, a budget-friendly option tailored for novice aviators. This drone, with its lightweight and foldable design, is a breeze to carry around and doesn't require registration in most countries due to its 169g weight. Sporting brushless motors and a 3.7V 1,000mAh battery, it promises up to 18 minutes of flight time, though real-world tests clocked it at around 15 to 12 minutes during aggressive flying sessions. The inclusion of an optical flow sensor ensures stable flight performance even without GPS assistance, a handy feature for beginners finding their wings.
While the GPS functionality offers automatic hover, return to home, and landing capabilities, don't get your hopes up for advanced features like Circle me or Waypoints despite the app's suggestions. The 1080p camera, which records at an interpolated 4K resolution, may leave you wanting more due to its low frame rate and unreliable recording performance. The LW Pro app, a prerequisite for operating the drone, mandates a phone compatible with 802.11AC 5GHz Wi-Fi, a detail often overlooked but crucial for seamless connectivity. The controller, powered by three AA batteries, boasts an LCD screen for telemetry data and various buttons for takeoff, landing, GPS mode switching, and camera control.
During a test flight at Pleasant Ridge Park, the ZD 013 Pro faced its fair share of challenges. Compass calibration issues led to stability problems, while attempts to record video through the app were marred by frequent crashes. Despite these setbacks, the drone's flight capabilities, including photo capture and video recording, were put to the test. The flight underscored the importance of thorough pre-flight checks, especially with regard to compass calibration, to ensure a smooth and enjoyable flying experience.
